Messy, Fun, Slightly Anxious, & Completely Sincere: Durry

Ry here. Xtina and I were trading songs again and it got me thinking about the show last night. Have you ever listened to the lyrics to a song and mid-track thought to yourself, “wait…same”. That’s the space that Durry’s music sits.  Messy, fun, slightly anxious, and completely sincere, Durry’s listless suburban alt-pop drums up the perfect amount of nostalgia and social commentary that feels like it was pulled from the same pile of thoughts everyone carries around. It’s the joke that’s hiding the truth. The self-deprecation that’s actually a survival tactic.

The show at Boise’s Neurolux was a good hang from the first note to the final song. A wall of screens looping classic movie scenes flanking the sibling duo and an impromptu Smash Bros. game played on stage by audience members during the song Porcupine aided to further sell what Durry’s music was already providing; a kind of nostalgia that sneaks up on you mid-sentence and reminds you of the freedom that exists in our youth.

Okay, gotta go, Xtina’s calling!

Ry’s starting line song:

Vibing the track but missed the show? Follow along so you can meet us at the next one, stage left bars, and help us add another song to Xtina’s Infinite Playlist.
